Answering a call from friends U Aye Lwin and his wife Daw Peggy, now active in the new reconstituted RC Yangon, Virginia Rotarians Bilal Raschid and his wife Daw Tin Tin Nu Rashid provided reams of information on the former Rotary Club of Rangoon, as well as priceless records, photographs and lists of officers and events from times gone by. These records will serve the new RCY as an important historical resource on the RCY website (see History) and allow us to continue updating the historical record. RCY especially salutes Mr. Raschid and his wife for their tireless devotion to Rotary causes in three separate RC Virginia Clubs, where Daw Tin Tin Nu has served as President and District President for several years. The couple holds distinction as dual achievers of the “Service Above Self” Award, and may be the only couple on record to have this honor. In addition, Daw Tin Tin is the only serving Asian-American President, and certainly the only Myanmar woman to have achieved this honor.

Bravo and a job well done from RCY.

On December 4, 2014, U Nelson Rweel aka U Tun Myaing provided RCY with an inspiring description of his efforts to assist the Palaung Tea Growers and Sellers Association. Faced with ongoing ethnic conflicts in Kachin State, and an increasing socio-economic burden of poppy cultivation in the remote areas, tea-growers were determined to develop a formal association and marketing programme.
